HYDERABAD, March 20: Syed Nasir Ali Shah Bukhari, Chairman, Sindh Privatization Committee, has called upon investors/entrepreneurs and others to come forward and purchase the government properties reserved for sale in the real estate, industrial units, and commercial sectors.

Addressing the members of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (HCCI) during his visit to its office the other day, the chairman gave a presentation on the committee’s aims saying that the committee which consisted of 10 members from the private sector and five from the public would dispose of 19 properties on March 30 for which bids were being invited and were being accepted at the head office and at sub-office at Hyderabad.

The chairman said that the main reason for disposing of these government assets was to improve the financial health of the province in order to assure better services to the citizens through privatization.

He further stated that 30 per cent of funds from this sale would be given to the district in which the property was situated and would be spent on poverty alleviation while 70 per cent was for the debt retirement of the Sindh Government.

He said that the basic idea behind this whole concept was to revive the economy.

On this occasion, the Zila Nazim, Hyderabad, Dr Makhdoom Rafik Zaman stressed the need for maximum participation of businessmen in the bids and stated that it was a prime opportunity for investors to purchase real estate, industrial, and commercial enterprises.

Earlier, Yusuf Suleman, president of the HCCI, welcomed the chairman and others and asked for privatization of sick industrial units also.

He assured full cooperation of businessmen in the economic revival of the country.

Later, the chairman visited the committee’s sub-office situated at Latifabad Unit No3 where he met the investors, who were depositing bids for various units. He also talked with the in charge, M. Sadiq, and made inquiries about people’s interest.

It may be pointed out here that the Sindh Government has offered for sale many properties to the public throughout Sindh.

The buyers have been advised to ensure that their bids should reach the office of the secretary of the committee at the head office situated in Block 15, Sindh Secretariat, 4-A, Court Road Karachi, phone number 9202077, fax 9202071 by March 30 at 11am and the bids would be opened on the same day in the presence of bidders at 11:30am.
