TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 28: People were astonished to see Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company (Fesco) staff to reach a government-run Jamia Masjid in Sadar Bazaar just before Friday prayers to disconnect its power supply owning to non-payment of bills for the past five months.
Devotees gathered there to offer prayers immediately collected donations and paid the arrears to Fesco staff to avoid the disconnection.
The mosque, being run by the Auqaf department, owns several shops rented out by the department earning hundreds of thousands of rupees every month.
The department, however, did not pay electricity bills for the past five months prompting the Fesco’s arrears recovery staff to raid the mosque. Citizens have condemned the Auqaf department’s negligence and demanded an action against the officials concerned.

Ghulam Shabbir Shah informed the Arrouti police that his daughters Shabnam, 15, and Zarina, 13, went to school but did not return. He said he received a call from a cell phone and the caller, who introduced himself as Javed, told him that he had kidnapped his daughters. However, the caller did not demand any ransom money, Shah said. The police have registered a case and started investigations.
