LAHORE, March 18: Former captain Moin Khan earned a late call for the training camp starting at the Gaddafi Stadium from March 22.

The camp is being set up to prepare and select a 14-man squad for next month’s Sharjah Cup. Besides Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand are the other participating teams.

Moin, who has a record 257 dismissals and 2,853 runs in 190 matches, was not named in the 30 probables that were named Saturday. The selectors had called rookie Kamran Akmal as backup to Rashid Latif.

Moin, dumped after the New Zealand tour last March, has been playing active cricket and led Karachi to victory in the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy. He is also captaining a star-studded PIA in the National One-day cricket championship.

Moin’s call for the camp doesn’t guarantee him selection in the 14-man squad for Sharjah. But his late inclusion indicates that he is back in fray and would be considered for selection if required.

It is after 1998-99 that Rashid and Moin will be attending the camp at the same time. When Moin was the Pakistan vice-captain and later became the captain, Rashid was not invited to any camp as the bungling selectors opted for Atiq-uz-Zaman, Humayun Farhat and Javed Qadeer.
