GIBRALTAR, March 18: About 25,000 people in Gibraltar — nearly all of the British colony’s residents — turned out on Monday to protest negotiations that could give Spain a voice in their affairs.
Carrying British and Gibraltar flags, the crowd marched in the streets to protest negotiations between London and Madrid.
“Everyone who can is here,” Chief Minister Peter Caruana told the cheering crowd. He has repeatedly accused Britain and Spain of working against the wishes of the population by seeking a change in the colony’s status.
Caruana had called on “the whole of Gibraltar”, around 30,000 people, to attend the demonstration.—AFP
