RAWALPINDI, Sept 20: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has announced that it would charter a train from Rawalpindi for welcoming party leader Benazir Bhutto who is scheduled to land in Karachi on October 18.

About 1,000 people would board the train that would leave for Karachi on October 17 and the passengers would be given accommodation in the city from where they would march towards the Jinnah International Airport in order to accord a historic welcome to the party chief.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, Malik Arshad Awan, a PPP nominated candidate from NA-52, said that he would fund the entire expenses and urged people to contact the People’s House at Chaklala for further information.

Mr Awan said that a large number of workers from Rawalpindi would reach Karachi for receiving Ms Bhutto adding that her arrival would give a new hope to the people ahead of the general elections in Pakistan.

He said that the people would be mobilised to board the train adding that the Railways authorities had already been contacted in this regard in order to ensure timely departure of the train from Rawalpindi.

The decision was made during a meeting held here on Thursday which was attended by Jaafar Hussain Shah, Barrister Zafar Mehmood and other party leaders.
