MULTAN, March 17: Scores of people in an open kutchery of the Wapda chairman on Sunday complained about malpractice and corruption of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) officials.

Despite inadequate publicity, a large number of people thronged the local circuit house and conveyed grievances to Wapda Chairman Lt-Gen Zulfiqar Ali Khan.

Most of the complaints were about over-billing, delay in commissioning connections, unannounced loadshedding and fluctuation in supply, acceptance of illegal gratification and harassment through wrong detection bills.

On the complaints, the chairman suspended Mian Channu Executive Engineer Abdul Ghaffar, Faisal Town sub-division SDO Khalid Pervez of Vehari, line superintendent Muhammad Akbar of Vehari and line superintendent Rao Muhammad Afzal of Hassanabad sub-division, Multan.

COMMITTEE: The Director Trade Organization (DTO), federal ministry of commerce, has constituted a 10-member committee to conduct elections for the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA).

He formed the committee after dissolving the existing management committee of the association led by Shaikh Muhammad Saeed. He reportedly took the step when a court vacated the stay order granted to Shaikh Saeed.

The committee comprises Aftab Ahmad Khitchi, Shaikh Khalid Qayyum, Maqbool Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Iqbal, Malik Nazir, Ramaish Lal, Syed Mahmoodul Hassan, Rao Saddaruddin, Qaswar Abbas and Abdul Rasheed Khan.

First meeting of the committee was held here on Saturday.

The committee elected Abdul Rasheed Khan its convener-cum-chairman to lead PCGA during the interim period of three months.
