HYDERABAD, March 16: Wasim Akram Saturday suggested that International Cricket Council (ICC) should take initiative on bowling action of any bowler in initial stage of his career.

Wasim, who came here to play one Day National Cricket Tournament for PIA against Hyderabad was replying to the queries of journalists at Niaz Stadium.

Commenting on the apprehension of ICC on bowling action of a Sri Lankan off spinner Muttiah Muralitharan, he said that at this stage when he has taken more than 400 wickets, the question of his bowling action does not arise.

About Shoaib Akhtar Wasim believed that nothing was wrong with his bowling action, but he would face problem because of his fast pace.

He said that Muhammed Sami is another talented pacer of the country, however, PCB should take more care of Sami to become a future strike bowler.

Wasim Akram said that there is no dearth of fast bowlers in the country. More talent will be available after five years as the PCB has prepared a comprehensive plan for the purpose by setting up Cricket Academies in the country, he hoped.

Commenting on his fitness, a confident Wasim said he is completely fit and reiterated that that no one has approached him at the time of final of Asian Test Championship.

He reminded that final test was held on March 6 and he played against Bahawalpur on March 8, 2002.

He vowed to come back in the team through his performance instead of any influence. He reminded that after World Cup, he will retire from the international scene.

About selection of team for Asian Test Championship, he said that the selection was right, however, the captain and coach must select the final eleven according to behaviour of the wicket. Sri Lankans showed outstanding performance and won the Test with hard work, he said and added, Pakistan suffers more pressure during home series.

Responding to a question about preparation of team for World Cup, the great all rounder said that PCB must select 25 to 30 players on contract so that they should work hard for a place in the squad. “We must also make sure that Saeed Anwar continues to be available for the World Cup as three or four quality batsmen are needed for the mega event. At present Pakistan have only two top class batsmen in Inzamam-ul-Haq and Yousif Youhana” he opined.—APP
