Polio vaccinators for probe

Published September 1, 2007

DERA GHAZI KHAN, Aug 31: The field staff of polio vaccination campaign of the Health Department has demanded the audit of funds of all previous vaccination campaigns. Forty staff members made the demand through an application to the health executive district officer (EDO). They blamed the accountant of the health department was involved in misappropriation and he did not pay allowances to the field staff in time. They alleged the clerk cut their wages for the reasons best know to him.

The staff said they had yet to get their allowances for the recently concluded campaign while the field staff in Rajanpur district had obtained their allowances. The copies of the application have also been sent to the representatives of the World Health Organization and Unicef.

When Dawn contacted the official concerned for his comment, an attendant said that the account clerk was not present in his office.
