Nazim on quake-hit school buildings

LAHORE, Aug 30: Work on the buildings of seven city government schools, rendered unusable by the Oct 8, 2005 earthquake, is in progress and they will be ready by year end, District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood told a meeting here on Thursday.

The new buildings have been designed keeping in view future requirements and quality material is being used to raise the structures, Mahmood said.

The meeting was informed that land levelling and PCC work for foundation columns had been completed at Junior Muslim Model School, Rajgarh; Junior Model School, Daras Baray Mian, Mughalpura; Girls High School, Gulistan Colony, Mustafabad and Boys High School, Chungi Amar Sidhu. Brick work up to roofs and shuttering has been completed at CDG Primary School, Nawan Pind, Harbanspura; Government Middle School, Do Guage, Cantonment and Government Middle School, Hussainabad. These schools are being reconstructed under the citizens community boards at a cost of Rs80 million.

The nazim directed the executive district officer for works to personally supervise work on these schools on a regular basis and ensure their completion on time. He said all buildings of city government schools and hospitals should have a standard design.
