HYDERABAD: Woman, bandit shot dead

HYDERABAD, Aug 27: A woman and an alleged bandit were gunned down while a private security guard was injured in two separate incidents in the city on Monday. A vehicle of a private distribution company arrived at a local bank branch in unit-7 Latifabad to deposit Rs231,000 when three armed bandits intercepted them and resorted to firing, hitting guard Zarwali, 53.

A police constable of A-section police Shakeel who was deployed there also resorted to firing on the bandits, hitting one of them seriously. Two of his accomplices managed to escape firing in the air.

The alleged bandit was identified as Ghulam Nabi Channa alias Karo. He was resident of Khai road near Wadhu Ka Pir. He received four bullets on left side, chest, lungs and heart. His autopsy was conducted by Dr Mohammad Ayub Wassan, who claimed that he recovered four bullets from his body.

He was involved in other cases, one of them was lodged with the same A-section police in 2001 when he and his accomplices had tried to rob Rs750,000 from a pharmaceutical company on Auto Bhan road and three policemen who were passing through the area intervened and they were fired upon.

One policeman, Naeem who is presently posted as Munshi at A-section police station, had received bullet injuries. The deceased was said to be a school teacher and had earlier remained in jail as well. The DPO announced promotion and cash prize for policeman Shakeel.

WOMAN MURDERED: A 45-year old woman Shaukat Rana wife of Qadir Bux Naich, an excise official, was gunned down in her house, located in Samanabad within the jurisdiction of Bhittai Nagar police station. Police said two unidentified armed persons barged into her house and fired on her. She died instantly. Her body had been taken to her native town, Bhirya city. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained. Police said that no FIR was so far lodged.

ELECTROCUTED: Two men including a cleaner were electrocuted while working on a truck near Bhitai Kanta within the jurisdiction of Tando Yousuf police station. They were identified as Khalid Depar and Abdul Rasheed Bhatti. Khalid had accidentally touched a high tension line and fell on the driver in the truck, passing earth in the body of Bhatti, who was also electrocuted. They were residents of Tando Hyder.
