KARACHI, March 13: A goods transport operator was shot dead and his employee was wounded in a bungled robbery in Kalri, Lyari.

Police said four armed bandits forced their entry into New Chishtian Goods Transport Company on Mauripur Road and made the inmates hostage at gunpoint. As they tried to snatch the cash, Abdur Razzak, proprietor of the company ,and his employee Yusuf resisted the bandits, who opened fire on them and fled.

Abdul Razzak died on the spot and Yusuf suffered a bullet wound, who was rushed to a hospital. Yusuf’s condition was stable at the hospital.

Pakistan Transport Federation condemned the killing of Abdur Razzak and demanded of the Sindh governor to issue directives for the arrest of culprits.

PTF chief Asif Mehmood said the transport community was grieved over the killing and they would observe a strike against the murder on Thursday (March 14).

SHOT DEAD: Moazzam Iqbal, 45, father of three, was shot dead near his New Karachi residence.

Moazzam Iqbal, a resident of Khuda ki Basti, was intercepted by two motorcyclists at Bashir Chowk in New Karachi. Moazzam suffered a single bullet in his head which proved fatal and he died on the spot. The attackers fled the scene.

Police reached the spot and shifted the body to a hospital. Police said Moazzam was a candle-maker. The killing might be an outcome of personal enmity, the police said.

WOUNDED: Bandits entered an office on the second floor of Mohammadi House on I.I. Chundrigar Road near the provincial police headquarters, shot and wounded a man, and took away cash from him.

Three bandits entered an office when Yunus Khan was present alone. The bandits made Yunus hostage and collected Rs11,000. As they attempted to leave, Yunus put up resistance. The bandits hit him in his back and fled with the loot.

Yunus was later shifted to Civil Hospital where he underwent a surgical operation and doctors termed his condition as out of danger.

ACCIDENT: A recklessly-driven minibus hit a boy, who died on the spot in Quaidabad.

Police said Ghulam Hussain, 16, was crossing the road when the recklessly-driven minibus hit him. The driver escaped leaving the minibus. The police impounded the vehicle and started a search for the absconding driver.

CARJACKING: Fourteen vehicles — four cars, a truck and nine motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in different areas on Wednesday.

Police said the vehicles were hijacked in Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Jamshed Quarters. Another was stolen in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.

Bandits stole a truck (SA-8185) on Shahrah-i-Pakistan in Samanabad police limits.

Four motorbikes were hijacked in Eidgah, Artillery Maidan, Buffer Zone and Orangi Town police limits.

Five others were stolen in Artillery Maidan, City Courts, Gulistan-i-Johar and New Town police precincts.

Police claimed to have recovered four stolen cars (T-9693, KB-4419, PL-8962, ADM-984).

ARRESTS: Police arrested six suspects for their alleged involvement in the murder case of a woman in North Nazimabad.

Sharea Noorjahan police said they arrested Niaz Gul, Anwar Khan, Rashid, Lal Zameen alias Laloo, Ashraf and Shahjahan alias Nadeem and recovered five TT pistols and a weapon of killing from their possession in North Nazimabad. They suspects were charged with killing Mehar Alam during a robbery at her house on Feb 17.
