KHAIRPUR, Aug 20: Scores of people belonging to Khuhro community staged a protest demonstration in Sobhodero on Sunday and raised slogans against police. They told journalists that 22 people, including four teenagers, recently released from the Sobhodero Police Station on orders of the Sindh High Court were being issued threats.
Suspension of officials of the Sobhodero police station was just eyewash, they said and demanded action against those responsible for harassing and torturing innocent persons in illegal confinement.
Meanwhile, Sukkur RPO Mohammad Baxchal Sangri visited Sobhodero on Sunday to inquire about 22 persons released from the police station on orders of the SHC on Friday.
The RPO met the police officials and took details. He also met the members of Khuhro community who complained of police’s highhandedness and torture.
Teenagers of Khuhro community Ayaz Ahmed, Nizamuddin, Abdul Qadir, Mubeen and one Abdul Latif Khuhro, headmaster of the Government Primary School Ali Bux Khuhro informed the RPO of the attitude of police.
Abdul Latif told the RPO that all arrested persons were innocent and had no connection with the kidnapping of Javed Arain, while police arrested them on baseless allegations. Four teenagers also complained about police torture.
People of Arain community told the RPO that they had been receiving death threats for their kidnapped person, Javed Arain as kidnappers were demanding ransom.
SUSPENDED: The DPO Khairpur suspended seven police constables for negligence in duty, on Monday.
They were posted at various police stations in the district. Those suspended belong to Khuhro community.
