KARACHI, Aug 20: The Judicial Magistrate, West, Ali Ahmed Jan, on Monday remanded 12 drivers of heavy trailers, tankers and trucks in judicial custody. The drivers were arrested by police in violation of Section 144 of CrPC in different areas.
Meanwhile, the Judicial Magistrate, South, Ghulam Murtaza Baloch, granted bail to 35 drivers against the surety bonds of Rs5,000 and warned them to abide by the law in future.
The drivers were arrested in the jurisdiction of Preedy, Defence, Clifton, North Nazimabad and SITE police stations. The drivers had not been handcuffed properly as police had tied them with a chain when they were brought to the court.
It was observed that many other suspects were brought there after the court timings.
The drivers, when asked, alleged that they were arrested before dawn though the ban restricted the entry of heavy vehicles in the city from 6am to 11pm.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, South, Shameem A. Saddozai, on Monday awarded 10-year rigorous imprisonment to Aurangzeb, son of Ulfat Ali, in a murder case.
According to the prosecution, the convict had barged into the shop of Mir Zaman Khan, son of Zainullah Khan, on Sept 3, 2002 in Chakiwara in an attempt to commit a robbery. On resistance, Aurangzeb injured the shopkeeper with a knife and took away some items from the shop.
The injured was shifted to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Soon after the incident Aurangzeb was arrested. The Kala Kot police had registered a case (FIR No 131/02) under Sections 393, 397 and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code on the request of the victim’s son, Amanullah.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 payable to the heirs of the victim as compensation.
