SHEIKHUPURA, March 12: A number of highways and building department’s contractors on Monday protested against the local district government for delay in payments.

The contractors at a joint meeting said the uplift projects worth Rs10.8 million had already been completed in various parts of the district during the last regime. However, they said they had been denied their dues.

Plagued by financial worries, they complained they could not continue the latest projects in the face of threats.

The association chairman apprehended they had been facing hardships due to a tussle between an audit officer and EDO (finance).

When contacted, EDO and some auditors said the payments had been delayed owing to paucity of funds, assuring them of the payment with the availability of funds.

The Naib Nazim said the elections for the four-member Public Safety Commission (PSC) would be held on

March 14.
