VEHARI, Aug 18: Around 50 villages of Sheikh Fazal feeder Burewala have been without electricity for the last four days after thieves stole a large portion of high-tension (HT) wires in yet another incident during the last week.

The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) officials are trying to restore the power supply since Friday, but to no avail.

Unidentified people stole over 3,000 meters of 11-KV HT wires and about 50 electric conductors on Thursday night. A Mepco official said the price of the stolen equipment was over Rs500,000 and an FIR had been lodged with the Burewala police.

Mepco Vehari Executive Engineer Muhammad Ishfaq said the power supply would be restored during the next 24 hours.

The locals protested the Mepco officials’ slackness and demanded quick restoration of the power supply. They also urged Mepco to adopt strict security arrangement as this was 2nd incident of its kind in this area during the last week and Mepco and police both were yet clueless.
