MITHI, Aug 17: Residents of Thahario Halepoto village, Mithi taluka, have appealed to the chief justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of the problems they are facing due to the existence of the camps of a coal company in the surroundings of the village.
Abbas Ali, Mohsin Ali, Allah Bachayo and other villagers told Dawn on Friday that establishment of camps of coal companies in the surrounding areas of the village after the discovery of coal deposits in the area had disturbed their peaceful life besides creating obstacles in their access to wells, farmland and pastures.
The villagers said that their main source of livelihood was cattle rearing and agriculture but a good number of them could neither cultivate their fields nor take their cattle to the pastures due to the coal company's camps in the area.
Some of the villagers were most likely to migrate to other locations because of the disturbance caused by the camps, they said, adding that they had made complaints to their elected representatives but their grievance had not been redressed. The villagers deplored that electricity and canal water had been provided to the camps but not to the villages in the area.
