MIRAMSHAH, Aug 13: Militants continued their onslaught against security forces in the troubled North Waziristan Agency and wounded eight soldiers in three separate attacks here on Sunday night and Monday.

Officials said that a military convoy hit two roadside explosive devices in the agency. The convoy was going to Miramshah from Bannu when a roadside bomb exploded near Karamkot in Mirali tehsil. Three soldiers were injured in the explosion and their vehicle was also damaged.

The officials said that when the same convoy comprising several vehicles passed by the Eisha checkpoint on the main Bannu-Miramshah road, another bomb went off, but no one was injured.

Militants attacked the Jaler checkpoint on Sunday night and injured two paramilitary soldiers. Troops started retaliatory fire and two Cobra helicopters were called in. However, the choppers returned to their base in Miramshah without bombing the area.

Three paramilitary soldiers were wounded during an attack on the Mana post along the Afghan border. Sources said two rockets hit the post. A checkpost in the Ghulam Khan area near the border also came under three rocket attacks.

Our Parachinar Correspondent adds: Nato spy and bomber planes have intensified their movement along the Pakistan-Afghan border and intruded deep into the Kurram tribal region.

Local people said that Nato planes had been intruding into the Pakistan’s tribal region for two days and entered the Parachamkani area, northeast of Parachinar town.

The planes targeted suspected locations in the Tora Bora area on the other side of the border and explosions shook the Parachamkani area. The continuous movement of bomber planes caused insecurity among residents of the Kurram region.

Talking to journalists, Senator Rashid Ahmad Khan urged the government to stop the airspace violation and intrusion of the Nato planes into Pakistani territory.

Meanwhile, in an interview to a private TV channel, a military spokesman said that there was no intrusion of any foreign aircraft into the Waziristan tribal region.

However, the spokesman said that a single intrusion that took place in the Kurram area was inadvertent and the intruding plane from Afghanistan had been immediately informed and the crew apologised.

He denied that Nato planes were involved in any attacks inside the Pakistani territory.
