LAHORE, Aug 12: Miran Buksh of Kasur clocked one hour 27.50 mins to win the Independence Day Lahore-Kasur cycle race on Sunday.

The race started from the Punjab Stadium and ended in front of the District government offices in Kasur after covering a distance of 60 Kms.

Miran, received a cash prize of Rs5,000. Nazar Ali and Mohammad Shafiq also of Kasur district grabbed the second and third position to pocket Rs3,000 and Rs2,000. Mushtaq Ahmad (Army, Rs1,000), Bashir Ahmad (Lahore, Rs700), Hayat-ul-Qadeer (Rabwah, Rs600), Mohammad Amin (Faisalabad, Rs500), Faiz-ul-Hassan (Lahore, Rs500), Ahmad Bilal (Lahore), Rs500), and Mohammad Rashid (Faisalabad, Rs500) were included in the top ten.

Meanwhile, two matches were also held on the opening day of the Don Bosco Jashan-e-Azadi basketball tournament at Don Bosco High School on Sunday.

New Age Club defeated Henry Francis Club 49-45 after taking 24-20 lead at the half time. Hasan Malik (24), Michael, (11) and John (eight) were the main scorers for the winners. Sheraz (15), Shoaib (11) and John (9) were the main fighters for the losers.Don Bosco Old Boys Club trounced Sheikhupura Club 59-39. The losers led the first half 18-16 but they could not maintain the lead in the second half.

Maudood Jafri (12), Farhan Sheikh (16) and Adnan Tahir (15) played major role for the win. Haider Shah (14), Arsalan (eight) and Abdullah (eight) were the key scorers for the losers.
