SANGHAR, March 11: A seminar was organized in the city on Monday to create awareness among the people about health care and sanitation.

The Sindh Government and an NGO, Sindh Agricultural and Forestry Workers Coordinating Organization (SAFWCO), organized the seminar in collaboration with the UNICEF.

A walk was also held in which a large number of people participated including elected representatives.

The walk started from the Civil Hospital and ended in front of the press club after passing through the main roads.

The chairman, SAFWCO, Suleman G. Abro, informed the gathering that only 23 per cent population of the country had sanitation facilities.

He said that 250,000 children died before attaining the age of five on account of lack of sanitation, which also causes diarrhoea.

He said that 37 per cent of the population could be protected from different diseases if proper sanitation facilities were ensured, and added that 35 per cent of the people could be saved from diseases if everybody washed their hands properly.

He said that 22 per cent people would not suffer from diseases if they were provided clean drinking water.

Dr Mehmood Ahmed Rajput, Abdul Waheed Nizamani, Dr Zulfiqar Shah, and Ms Imamzadi Wassan also spoke on the occasion.

ARMED ROBBERY: Two unidentified armed robbers stole Rs250,000 from the manager of the Naseer petrol pump in broad daylight on Monday.

The manager, Ifthikar, was intercepted by the robbers while he was on his way to a bank.
