KARACHI, Aug 8: The women employees of the population welfare department have drawn the attention of the AG Sindh, chief minister and the governor towards their exploitation by the district officers and accounts officials, mostly in the interior districts, where they were being deprived of their TA/DA cheques.

A delegation of women employees recently apprised a group of journalists that the crossed cheques, which ought to be deposited directly into their accounts, were being cashed by the unscrupulous officials in collaboration with the DOs.

Giving the details of the methods of circumventing the procedure, they said that accounts officials, instead of handing over the cheques to the employees, got their signature on revenue stamps and after getting them countersigned by the DO, the cheques were cashed.

This practice has been in vogue in the department for the last six years and whenever any employee attempted to protest, she was victimised and transferred to a posting far from home.
