PESHAWAR, Aug 5: Former chief minister Arbab Jehangir Khan has asked the people to elect genuine political forces in the forthcoming general elections as the non-political entities imposed on them in the previous elections had failed to deliver.

Speaking at a reception organised by a People’s Party Parliamentarians leader here in Tehkal Bala on Saturday evening, Arbab Jehangir said he would continue his struggle for the rights of the people till his last breath.

He said in the previous elections political power had been given to those who were ignorant about the basic needs of people.

He said lawlessness had increased but the government was engaged in petty issues with the clerics.

Mr Arbab, who was NWFP chief minister during Gen Ziaul Haq’s rule, said his Khalil tribe would elect PPP nominees in the general elections. He said only politically-sounded parties could deliver to the people.

He said he would be available for socio-political service for the people of his area despite his old age. He said his son, Dr Arbab Alamgir, also provincial information secretary of the PPP, had been serving the people of Peshawar since entering politics.

He said being an elected representative from Peshawar he had served the masses wholeheartedly.

Yasin Khan Khalil, a former nazim of Town-III and a nominee for the provincial assembly seat, said the PPP had brought mega projects to Peshawar during its first tenure and abolished the political hold of selective families on politics.
