RAWALPINDI, Aug 1: Anti-Terrorist Court (ATC) Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot here on Wednesday accepted the bail application of former Lal Masjid’s chief cleric Maulana Abdul Aziz in one of the cases against him, while his wife Umme Hassaan and daughter Tayyaba Dua were sent to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand.

Maulana Aziz was granted bail with a surety of Rs50,000 in the case registered against him and his students by the Bhara Kahu police for forcibly shutting down some shops.

Meanwhile, the court also released 32 people allegedly involved in riots at Lal Masjid last Friday, while another 15 were sent to Adiala Jail on 15-day judicial remand.

The capital police had arrested 65 people after clashes broke out between the police and the supporters of Maulana Aziz when the latter refused to offer Friday prayers led by a government appointed Imam.

The police charged the accused with terrorism, unlawful gathering, rioting armed with deadly weapons, attempt to commit murder, assault or use of criminal force to deter public servants, obstructing public servants in discharging public duty, disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant, and mischief causing damage to public property.

Meanwhile, the police also produced Umme Hassaan, Tayyaba Dua and a former Moallim (teacher) of Lal Masjid - Mohammad Afzal - before the court in the cases registered with the Aabpara and Kohsar police stations.

However, the ATC judge sent them to Adiala Jail on 14 days judicial remand.

Talking to media persons, Umme Hassaan and Tayyaba Dua expressed their determination to continue their struggle for the implementation of Islamic Sharia laws in the country. They maintained that they would not quit on their demands and were ready to face all kind of consequences in this regard.
