ISLAMABAD, Aug 1: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has taken suo motu notice of sale of kites in Mardan and sought a report from the NWFP Chief Secretary, regarding sale of kites and kite flying despite the Supreme Court decision against kite flying.

The hearing of the case has been fixed on August 10 in Chamber.

The suo motu action was initiated on a press clipping appearing in local daily regarding kites sale in Mardan.

The media report said although Supreme Court has banned sale of kites in the area but kite dealers had continued this business in Mardan. The parents of the children asked the provincial and district governments to take strict action against kite dealers and close their shops.

In another case the Chief Justice directed to issue notices to Chief Secretary and Provincial Police Officer, Balochistan and fix the case in Chamber on August 15 on the issue of missing people, particularly those belonging to Balochistan, as hundreds of political workers have been arrested by intelligence agencies in violation of the law.

In another case, the Chief Justice directed to call report from IGP Sindh regarding murder of Abdul Rehman resident of Berani, Teh Chachhro, Dist Tharparkar.

The father of the deceased has alleged that the deceased Abdul Rehman was murdered after an act of sodomy by Murad Ali Malkani, Dhani Bux Malkani, Ahmed Ali Nahri, and Ghulam Haider Samijo. He further alleged that Police is not taking action against the criminals. He has appealed to the CJP for justice. The hearing of the case has been fixed on August 10.

In another case, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry has directed to call report from District and Sessions Judge, Attock.

Sultan Mehmood, under trail prisoner, at Rawalpindi Jail, in a letter to editor has said that he was in Attock Jail in a case. Later he was transferred to Rawalpindi Jail as a punishment because he reported sale of drugs inside the jail premises to Superintendent Jail, Attock and demanded action against the culprits. As a consequence he is in Rawalpindi Jail and has not been able to appear in his case for the last three months. He requested inquiry into the matter, and appealed that he might be sent to Attock Jail to pursue his case.
