ISLAMABAD, July 31: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal president and Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed on Tuesday accused President General Musharraf of enforcing the US agenda of secularisation by eliminating madressahs.

He said that the demolition of Jamia Hafsa in Islamabad was part of the same scheme.

Addressing a gathering of women demonstrators outside Faisal Masjid, he said that students of Jamia Hafsa had sacrificed their lives for the cause of Sharia and written a golden chapter in the Islamic history.

The ‘Nifaz-i-Sharia rally’ was jointly organised by the Jamaat-i-Islami and Wafaqul Madaris in protest against the military operation against Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa.

The demonstrators had come from various towns of Punjab and the NWFP, including Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Wazirabad and Peshawar.

They carried placards and banners with slogans pledging to carry on the mission of Islamisation in the country for which so many seminary students had laid down their lives.

Qazi Hussain accused intelligence agencies of being involved in suicide blasts and said that the agencies wanted to frighten people and stop them from coming out on the streets in the struggle against the dictatorship.

He said that those who had orchestrated the military operation against Jamia Hafsa and Lal Masjid wanted to declare other seminaries as hubs of terrorism and to replace them with obscenity dens.

The MMA president asked his followers to instil the spirit of jihad in the young generation and inculcate the true love of Holy Prophet (pbuh).
