KARACHI, July 22: A policeman allegedly shot dead one of his colleagues at a party arranged by the victim at his residence on Sunday.

According to initial reports, constable Shahid, a resident of the Garden Headquarters where he is posted also, arranged a party at his residence and invited some of his friends, including three policemen from the Anti-Violent Crime Unit, Inspector Khuda Bux, ASI Shabbir and constable Pervez, besides two civilians Zafar and Arif hailing from Shahid’s native town, Chakwal.

After having dinner, they all allegedly had liquor and started exchanging hot words over some matter. Eventually, they left the party but Shahid pacified the angry friends and persuaded them to return. At a later stage, ASI Shabbir got provoked by some offending remarks and in a fit of anger, he brandished his gun and fired a shot at Shahid, who died instantly.

ASI Shabbir, Zafar and Arif fled from the scene after the incident, Nabi Bux police said, adding that Inspector Khuda Bux and constable Pervez were arrested.

Chief of the AVCU Farooq Awan described the incident as “unfortunate”, and said: “As soon as the matter came to my knowledge, I placed all the three AVCU officials under suspension. However, the incident has nothing to do with the police department as it was their personal conflict.”

He said that the arrested policemen were handed over to the police station concerned.

Two bodies found

The body of a man in his 20s was recovered by police in Chakiwara area of Lyari Town. Local residents told police that the body was thrown out of a moving car. The body was sent to a hospital where the victim’s identity could not be established till late Sunday night.

Another body, partially decomposed, of a man in his 30s was recovered from a storm-water drain line in Phase-VIII, Defence Housing Society. Police said the identity card possessed by the victim showed his name as Kashif, a resident of North Karachi. They stated that a missing report in the same name was registered at the Taimuria police station, North Nazimabad.
