RAWALPINDI, Oct 20: President’s Bodyguards faced little resistance in beating Multan by eight and half goals to five goals to lift the title trophy in the Trades Cup Polo Tournament at Rawalpindi Polo Club on Saturday.
The trophy was donated by the traders of Rawalpindi, way back in 1899.
Playing with handicap of one and half goals, the scorers for President’s Bodyguards were: Hassan Jaffer Khan (3), Sawar Malhi Khan (2) and Maj. Muhammad Kamran Aslam and Taimur Mawaz Khan (1 each).
The reply from Multan came from Malik Atif Yar Khan Tiwana (1 each in the first, third and fourth chakkars) and Lt. Col. Raja Nadeem and Umer Minhas (first and fourth chakkars respectively).
Tariq Khan Afridi and Tariq Ahmed were the umpires in the final match of the tournament sponsored by Bahria Town (pvt) Ltd.
Earlier, in the subsidiary final for the third place, Roohi (Bahawalpur) Whites outplayed Bahria Town by six goals to two and half goals with the losers taking the field with a half goal advantage.
For the winners, Hasib Minhas came up with three goals, Lt. Col Tariq Ahmed slammed two while Shah Kublai Alam had one goal.
For the losers, Arsalan Najeeb and Dafedar Khurshid Ahmed were the scorers.
An exhibition match in memory of late polo player Rizvi will be played at 3.45 p.m. Sunday. PSO will sponsor the exhibition match in memory of late Rizvi who died while playing polo in Lahore two years back.—APP
