Wapda workers dismissed

SUKKUR, March 8: The chairman, Wapda, Lt Gen Zulfiqar Ali on Friday dismissed from service the SDO, Wapda, Ghotki Ashfaq Bhatti, and line superintendent, Nazir Ahmed, and suspended the XEN, Wapda, Ghotki, Noor Ahmed Dayo, who were indirectly held responsible for the death of a consumer, Abdul Khaliq Samejo.

The chairman, Wapda, also ordered that a compensation of Rs200,000 be paid to the family members of Mr Samejo.

An inquiry has been ordered and an inquiry team from Hyderabad will be reaching Ghotki on Saturday.

Abdul Khaliq Samejo, a washer man of Ghotki City, was brought to the Civil Hospital Sukkur on Eid-ul-Azha in a precarious condition after having been allegedly burnt by the Wapda staff, Ghotki, after he failed to grease their palm regarding the settlement of his electricity bill.

He was shifted to Karachi in a serious condition one week ago where he expired last Tuesday.
