ISLAMABAD, July 20: The acquisition of knowledge about WTO’s Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a dire need for rising to the occasion in the multilateral trading system. ”Our national interests in international market could only be safeguarded if lawyers, legal advisers and other trade related officials equip themselves with IPR law,” said Director General IPO Pakistan Muhammad Yasin Tahir.

Addressing the conclusion ceremony of a training workshop on IPR, he said legal departments of trade and industries as well as local business community were not fully aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the WTO.

They should acquire the maximum knowledge about the implications and complications of IPR laws to pull themselves out of financial crunch, he added.

Mr Tahir said that the WTO law simultaneously provided the global trade advantages and challenges for most of the developing countries like Pakistan. He stressed upon all chambers of commerce and industry, associations and trade bodies to arrange training workshops on IPR with the cooperation of International Islamic University.

Prof Muhammad Bashir Ghuman underlined the need to adopt WTO trade laws without wasting further time. He said Islamic University would arrange similar workshops in other cities.
