LAHORE, Oct 20: The three-year-old colt Crown Maker, with an impressive victory on the trot last time out, seems a good proposition, when the 7th Lahore Winter Meeting gets under way at the Racecourse on Sunday.
The thoroughbred bay colt from The Cry Of The Clown out-of- Marilyn Monroe, Crown Maker will be contesting in the Wazir Abad Cup, a Class V handicap race to be run over the sprinting distance of six furlongs. This will be the sixth and last race of the day’s card.
Crown Maker had won a good race run over the sprinting distance of five furlong on September 30. Later the colt was to take part in the Islamabad Cup on October seven but was withdrawn because of an injury in one of his hooves. Subsequently his entries in races were stopped for 14 days. He did not run since then. It is reported that the injury which kept the colt out of racing has been cured.
After winning the race in Class VII, Crown Maker has been promoted to Class V at a lower weight of 7-10 which gives him an edge over his 14 experienced rivals. They include Shershah, Fanim and Half Love, who are good sprinters. If ticking, they should put some fight before bowing out.
The remaining five events, all to be contested over six furlongs, looks competitive. The first race will start at 12.30 pm.
