MADRID, Oct 20: Russia retained their world rhythmic gymnastics team title here Friday at the end of a two-day competition they dominated throughout.
The Russians, led by the outstanding Alina Kabaeva and Irina Tchachina, stretched their lead over second-placed Ukraine to more than 17 points by the end of the second day, with Belarus just behind in third.
The championships continue on Saturday and Sunday with the all-round and apparatus finals, with Kabaeva and Tchachina the overwhelming favourites for the gold medals.
