Imtiaz claims Sindh chess title

HYDERABAD, July 9: Karachi's Imtiaz Ahmed won the 27th Sindh Chess Championship claiming seven points in presence of several national masters. He beat NM Aziz Farooqui of Karachi, who got 6.5 points to secure second position.

A promising chess player, Asif Abbasi obtained six pints to grab third position as he beat Riyasat Ali Nazim.

NM’s Haseeb Ahmed, Asad Rampuri, Mohammad Younus and Salman Farooqui (Sindh police Hyderabad) secured fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth position respectively while Hyderabad's Qaiser Nizamani and Rashid Hussain secured five points each to secure ninth and tenth position respectively.

In the last round the contests between Imtiaz Abbasi and Riyasat Ali Nazim, NM Aziz Farooqui and NM Asad Rampuri, Rashid Hussain and Asif Abbasi, NM Haseeb Ahmed and Qaiser Nizamani, Hafeez ur Rehman and NM Mohammad Younus ended in a draw.

NM Salman Farooqui beat Raheel Ahmed (Karachi), Wahid Hussain (Hyderabad) bt Jehangir Ahmed (Karachi), Israr Hussain (Karachi) bt Maulana Qasim (Hyderabad), Mohammad Afaq (Hyderabad) bt Mohammad Rafi (Karachi), Kamran Hafeez (Karachi) bt Ali Raza (Hyderabad), Raees Ansari (Karachi) bt Zain ur Raza (Karachi), Mazhar Mirza (Karachi) bt Baseer Ahmed (Karachi).
