PESHAWAR, July 7: Four police constables were suspended and arrested after a convicted drug trafficker escaped from a hospital where he had been taken for a medical check-up.
Constables Zahoor, Najeen Khan, Said Mohammad and Amjid Ali were produced in the court of judicial magistrate Ahmad Iftikhar who remanded them in police custody for two days.
Amjid Ali is the son-in-law of the prisoner, Bashir Khan, and he allegedly facilitated the prisoner’s escape.
The Khan Raziq Shaheed police registered an FIR against the policemen and the prisoner under sections 223, 224 and 225 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
A police official told Dawn that the prisoner had been convicted by a special anti-narcotics court and he had been serving life term in the Peshawar Central Prison.
