Relief operations continue

RAWALPINDI, July 1: Relief and rescue operations by the army continued for the fifth day in flood-hit areas of Balochistan and elsewhere in the country.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), 10 helicopters carried out the operations in Turbat, Nasirabad, Nodez, Gabban, Kalatuk, Solaband, Sibbi, Jacobabad, Jhal Magsi, Buleda and Mand.

Another three army helicopters reached Turbat, while two Sea King helicopters of the navy reached Gwadar. Two MI-17 helicopters of the air force reached Karachi for relief and rescue operations in Balochistan.

Army helicopters had distributed 65,360kg of relief goods among affected people.

According to the ISPR, 12 sorties of C-130 aircraft carrying relief goods were flown to Turbat, Gwadar, Jacobabad and Sibbi.

During the operations, 21 sorties of C-130 had shifted 127 tons of relief goods from PAF bases in Chaklala and Karachi to Turbat, Gwadar, Pasni, Jacobabad and Sibbi.

As many as 400 men of the Frontier Works Organisation were repairing the Costal Highway and they had linked Pasni with the highway. Repair of Phor and Shahdicor Nullah embankments was continuing.

FWO men were working on Hingol River Crossing but heavy flow of water was hampering the repair.

Army Engineers had restored traffic on the Sibbi-Quetta road, while Pasni-Aghor and Mand-Turbat roads were still closed. An army team had established a medical camp at the Turbat DHQ Hospital.

Mobile medical teams had been sent to the affected areas.

Two Fokker aircraft of the navy carrying medical and diving teams reached Gwadar and Ormara.
