KARACHI, March 5: Provincial secretary of population welfare Ashfaq Ahmad Memon has underscored the need for creating awareness among males about reproductive health to ensure effective implementation of family planning programmes.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a seminar on “Maximum Participation of Males in Reproductive Health”, which was organized by Reproductive Health Centre, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, here on Tuesday.
The secretary said it had transpired during a survey that majority of male population was fully alive to positive aspect of family planning and necessity of a proper gap between children’s birth.
“However, there is a need to compel and convince them to follow family planning methods,” he added.
He asked the officials and staff of the family welfare department to make efforts to ensure the participation of a maximum number of women and men in different reproductive health programmes as the move would effectively help combat rising level of population in the country.
While praising the efforts of JPMC’s reproductive health centre for creating awareness among the people, he hoped that their approach would help in achieving the desired results.
