LAHORE, June 20: Chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed on Wednesday said former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has not been considered for the central contract because the former skipper has retired from one day cricket and does not meet the requirement laid down by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“PCB has given us a clear policy to consider only those players for central contracts who are available for both Tests and one-dayers,” said Salahuddin while talking to reporters.
He said there was no question of overlooking Inzamam for central contracts in the first place since he was no longer available for the ODIs. “We have submitted a list of 30 players to the PCB and it will be the choice of the Board to award central contracts to any of the 20 players,” clarified Salahuddin. “The selectors did not even give any recommendations for players’ placing in A, B or C categories because it is not our job to determine that.”
The central contracts will come into effect from July 1, 2007.—APP
