DADU, June 20: A large number of farmers and activists of different political parties staged a rally on the call given by Awami Tehrik in Mehar on Wednesday in protest against acute shortage of water in Kakol Wah and Rice Canal.
The protesters started their march from the Gahi Mahessar road and terminated at the Mehar press club.
The leaders Ghulam Nabi Khoso, Mashooq Chandio, Abrar Abro and Alam Khaskheli blamed irrigation officials for the shortage in Rice Canal and Kakol Wah and charged that feudal lords were stealing water by tampering with watercourses and modules in connivance with irrigation officials.
Paddy seedlings were withering due to shortage of water, they said and feared if the situation persisted the growers would not be able to cultivate land in the ongoing season.
The protesters later observed a token hunger strike.
PROTEST: Sons and relatives of a deceased driver of health department observed a token hunger strike outside the local press club on Wednesday in protest against the department’s denial of jobs on deceased quota.
Sajid Mastoi who led the strike demanded that the department should provide jobs to the sons and relatives of the deceased on deceased quota of the paramedical staff.
DEMO: A large number of primary teachers on Wednesday staged a demonstration outside the National Bank and marched on the Main Chowk of the town in protest against the bank officials accusing them of refusing to issue advance salaries as loan.
Dadu Primary Teachers Association President Abdul Rehman Panhwar alleged that the bank manager and other officials misbehaved with teachers when they went to the bank to get advance salaries.
