MURREE, June 12: Twenty-five people were injured, five of them critically, when a bus rammed into a truck after hitting the guard rail near 22 Meel on Tuesday.
According to sources, the vehicle coming to Murree from Bahawalnagar met the accident at a sharp curve after the driver lost control apparently due to speeding.
The injured were shifted to the Federal Government Services Hospital in Islamabad where doctors described the condition of five persons as serious.
Traffic rush: Traffic snarls were witnessed at various places as a large number of vehicles entered Murree due to heavy inflow of tourists and the last day celebrations of the Urs of Pir Sahib Mora Sharif.
A huge number of people thronged Murree to escape the severe heatwave being experienced across the country. Similarly, more than 30,000 devotees of Pir Sahib Mora Sharif attended the last day prayer procession marking the end of the Urs.
Jika Gali, Sunny Bank, Kuldana and Kashmiri Bazaar were the main areas where traffic jams were witnessed.
In addition to the road between Kashmir Bazaar and Mora Sharif, an alternative route — Haroonur Rasheed Road — starting from Kuldana was developed to cope with the increasing load, but even then great rush was experienced in the area.
On the other hand, various roads in Murree Town are still to be repaired, as these were dug up for laying gas pipelines last year. —Correspondent
