KARACHI, June 12: The Vice-Chairman of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, MPA Imamuddin Shehzad, asked the KWSB officials to gear up the pace of construction work of the Karachi Stock Exchange nullah and complete it before the start of the rainy season.

He issued these directives while inspecting work on the project here on Tuesday.

The drain starting from Tower would join the City Railway Station drain and it would discharge rainwater from Kharadar, New Memon Masjid, Motan Das Market, Judia Bazaar, Saleh Muhammad Street, Chawla Street, Machhi Miani Road, I.I. Chandrigarh Road, Edhi Centre and other surrounding areas into the sea.

Meanwhile, KWSB Vice-Chairman MPA Muhammad Moin Khan inspected the 84-inch-diameter pipeline supplying water to North East Karachi from Hub Pumping Station.

Annoyed over the leakage, he called an urgent meeting at his office and gave a 30-day ultimatum to the officials concerned for plugging all leakages.

To finish the work in time, a committee comprising two engineers each from bulk transmission department and Tameer-i-Karachi Programme was formed.

He asked the chief engineer to submit to him recommendations till June 14 on the provision of potable water to low-cost colonies of Sarjani Town, particularly Khuda Ki Basti.—PPI
