KARACHI, June 10: Chief of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Altaf Hussain has stressed the need for ensuring grant of Sindh’s due share in the National Finance Commission Award for bringing an end to the unrest prevailing among the people of Sindh.

Mr Hussain expressed the view while talking to Nazeer Ahmed Brohi, joint secretary of the Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf, Sindh, who announced joining the Muttahida Qaumi Movement along with his 40 party colleagues on Sunday.

The MQM chief also called for constructing small dams instead of huge water reservoirs, arguing that small dams could be constructed in a shortest possible time.

Referring to the May 12 incidents, he said they were aimed at destroying peace in Sindh and obstructing the flow of foreign investment into the province, besides bringing a halt to the development work being carried out by the Haq Parast public representatives.

He noted that after the May 12 incidents, certain quarters tried to divide people on linguistic and ethnic lines with the aim of proving that the MQM was an ethnic party.

These quarters wanted to prevent the MQM from becoming a national party, he added.

Mr Hussain welcomed the PTI activists to the MQM fold and congratulated them.

Earlier, Mr Brohi, along with In-charge of the MQM coordination committee Anwar Alam, addressed a press conference at the MQM headquarters to announce his decision to join the MQM.

He said that after working for seven years with the PTI under the leadership of Imran Khan, he had realised that it was only the MQM that represented 98 per cent oppressed people of the country.
