PESHAWAR, June 7: The intelligence and investigation wing of the Central Board of Revenue has foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of narcotics but has miserably failed in arresting the traffickers.

According to a press release issued here on Thursday, following a tip-off the intelligence wing tried to intercept a jeep (LHV-8818, Government of Punjab) on the G.T. Road near Jhagra.

However, the driver increased his vehicle’s speed as a result of which it collided with a tree. Taking the benefit of the resultant traffic congestion, the driver, along with a woman passenger, escaped into the nearby fields.

On searching the vehicle, 179kg of hashish and 30kg of opium were recovered from under its seats. The narcotics and the vehicle have been taken into custody and an FIR has been lodged.
