CHITRAL, Oct 20: The district council Chitral has demanded of the federal government to initiate work on Gilgit-Chitral Road from Chitral side.

Speaking at council’s session on Saturday, the members unanimously demanded that work on the road from Chitral side be started keeping in view its peculiar geographical nature and climatic conditions.

It may be recalled that President Musharraf had announced the construction of the road during his last visit to the Northern Areas.

The council also adopted a resolution demanding that preference should be given to local people while recruiting employees in the organizations like the IUCN, except in cases when a local candidate is not available.

The council further demanded of the  provincial government to electrify the Yarkhoon valley by operating the third phase of the Reshun Hydel Power Station.

Later, speaker adjourned the session till Nov 15.
