KILLED: A man killed his son in his home in Sharea Faisal police limits on late Friday night.
The police arrested the 50-year-old man, Noorur Rahman, who confessed to having whipped his son Haseebur Rahman, aged nine, with a thick electric wire to death. He told the police that he struck the head of his son against walls repeatedly and also beat him with kicks and blows as his son had stolen Rs100.
Sub-inspector Riaz Husain, who arrested Rahman, said that the police came to know about the incident at 9:30pm on Friday, and sent Haseeb’s body to a hospital for autopsy late in the night.
Doctors at the hospital were of the view that a serious head injury caused death and the boy died more than six hours before he was taken to hospital.
The SI said that Noorur Rahman, hailing from Bannu in the NWFP, was a civilian employee in PAF mess and resident of B&R Colony in Sharea Faisal police limits. His wife separated from him about eight years back. Since then, she had been living in her native town, Bannu, with her other children, who were also by Noorur Rahman, he added.
The police officer said that Noor had given his son Rs100 to fetch milk from a nearby shop. Haseeb brought the milk and did not return the remaining amount to his father. When Noor asked about the remaining money, his son told him that the milkman did not return any remaining amount. Noor went to the milkman to verify his son’s claim. He returned home and started beating his son asking for the remaining amount. Haseeb could not give a reply that could satisfy his father. This provoked Noor and he whipped his son with a thick electric wire, beat him with kicks and blows and struck his head against the walls of the room.
The SI said that neighbours were questioned who said that they heard the screams of Haseeb in the afternoon, but they did not pay heed as it often happened. He said that a case against Noor had been registered, and he had been handed over to the police investigation wing for further investigations, he added.
The body of an unidentified man was found in a garbage dump in Malir in the morning. The police said that the body was found near Bilal mosque in Saudabad and it was sent to a hospital for autopsy where doctors were of the opinion that the unidentified man, in his early 40s, died of a serious head injury. The body had been kept in the Edhi’s morgue for identification, the police said.
