KASUR, May 31: The Saddar police, under the political pressure, is reluctant to arrest the accused nominated in a murder case registered more than two months ago while the victim family is being pressurised to reconcile.
Farmer Qamar Din of Toddaypur village had no son and he adopted his nephew Shafique. He gave him the power of attorney to look after his property, including his cultivable land. Meanwhile, Anwar, the only daughter of Qamar Din came to the village along with her son Abdul Latif and started living there. Latif bore grudge against Shafique for occupying the property. He, with the help of his friend Ashraf, strangulated Shafique and spread the rumour that he was electrocuted while working in his ice factory near Noorpur canal.
The conspiracy opened when Manzooran, the mother of Shafique, overheard Latif talking on his cell phone about the murder plan. She spread the news of the murder of her son in the village.
On her request, the additional sessions judge granted permission for exhuming the body for autopsy. The autopsy report confirmed Shafique was strangulated to death.
The accused tried to create hurdles in exhumation of the body and exerted pressure on the family to prevent it.
The Saddar police registered a case against Latif and his accomplice but did not arrest them as they have the backing of a noted political figure of the city.
