ISLAMABAD, March 1: A two-member delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) called on Chief Election Commissioner Justice (retired) Irshad Hassan Khan, on Friday, and recorded its reservations over different issues, including delimitation of the constituencies and registration of aliens in the voters lists.

The delegation, comprising Aftab Ahmed Shaikh and Nasreen Jalil, urged the CEC that the delimitation, which was long overdue, be carried out in the light of section A-51 of the Constituencies and Delimitation Act 1974, Shaikh told Dawn.

He said they held in-depth discussions on all the election-related issues and recorded their reservations. The CEC, he said, held out a firm assurance that delimitation would be carried out strictly in accordance with the law.

The Muttahida leader said they also apprised the CEC of the registration of aliens in Karachi. The aliens, he added, had been registered in thousands and the CEC should take notice of it.

The CEC informed the MQM delegation that the first meeting of the Election Commission would be held on March 4 where all these issues would be discussed and sorted out.
