LAYYAH, May 20: The Rs4 million worth of project of road construction at one of the most congested localities called Mohallah Guryaniwala presents a picture of neglect as the road has been dug up hardly two days after its completion.
The tehsil municipal administration completed the long-awaited construction of Guryaniwala’s road which connects Saddar Bazaar with the General Post Office and it has been dug up from various places to install gas meters.
The project had been carried out as casually as possible as there were electricity polls in the middle of the road which could cause accident any time.
“The TMA could delay using tar on the road for a week or two so that the SNGPL authorities could install the meters at the houses,” according to Rizwan Ahmad, a resident of Guryaniwala. He alleged that the contractor had used substandard material and made a mess of the work.
The residents demanded that the tehsil nazim should order an inquiry into the road project.
TMO Abdul Majeed Haiderani said they had submitted money to Mepco authorities to shift the poles that hampered traffic flow on the road. He said the SNGPL authorities had been ‘actively’ carrying out meter-installation project because they wanted to complete it ahead of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s visit.
Answering a question, he said, the residents who had any complaints about the road project should submit a written application to the TMA after which inquiry would be conducted.
