HYDERABAD, May 20: Declaring the Right Bank Outfall Drain Project detrimental for Sindh, the Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has demanded immediate suspension of work on the RBOD project.

A meeting of the SCA held here on Sunday, demanded that the villagers of Jamshoro and Kotri, who had sustained losses due to excavation of RBOD nullah should be compensated.

The chamber, mainly representing big landlords, refused to accept the decision of the government about land reforms on the plea that it was against the Sharia law.

The president of the Chamber, Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah, said that the members of the parliament will be approached not to pass any law under which the growers would be deprived of their lands.

He said that in this regard, the Chamber has already submitted its suggestion to the land commission.

He said through these suggestions, the land reforms proposed by the government have been strongly opposed as the Sharia court has already given its decision on this matter.

The meeting made it clear that the Chamber would not accept any land reforms at any cost.

Those who attended the meeting included, Mir Murad Ali Talpur, Akhund Ghulam Mohammad Siddiqui, Anwar Bachani, Agha Nasrullah and others.

PADDY VARIETIES: The Sindh Seed Corporation has arranged 760 kg of pre-basic seed of six varieties of paddy from the Nuclear Institute of Tandojam and 750 kg of two basic paddy varieties from the Punjab Seed Corporation for further multiplication at its seed farms.

The varieties to be multiplied included Shadab, Shua-92, Khushboo-95, Sarshar, Mehak, Shandar, IRRI-6 and KS-282.

This was informed at a meeting of the SSC Management Board held under the chairmanship of provincial secretary of agriculture, Mahkumuddin Qadri, here on Saturday.

It was further informed that pre-basic and basic seed of cotton varieties namely CRIS-134, CRIS-121, FH-01, NIAB-78, Sindh-1, Shahbaz and Hari Dost have also been procured while 554 kg of basic and certified seed of cotton varieties were also available with the SSC for further multiplication.

A statement issued by the directorate of agriculture information Sindh, said on Sunday that the main issues of seed production farms, like illegal occupation, and land development, have been solved.
