SHIKARPUR, May 20: Several leaders and workers of the National People’s Party (NPP) and its student wing have joined the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).

This was announced by National People’s Students Federation’s Sindh president Dr Basheer Ahmed Brohi, vice-president Rafiq Ahmed Malano, and 20 other NPSF and NPP workers -- including Aijaz Mustafa Malano, Shikarpur district general secretary of the party, and Abdul Razak Khoso, vice-president, at a press conference here on Sunday.

They said they have confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif. PML-N district president Malik Hadi Bux welcomed their induction into the party.

The NPP, an offshoot of the Pakistan People’s Party, was founded by veteran politician Ghulam Mustufa Jatoi. After last elections, the NPP was merged into the Pakistan Muslim League and joined the Sindh coalition.

However, the move was opposed by several NPP leaders and activists and those joining the opposition PML-N are part of that group.

SUP: In the same press conference, some leaders and activists of the Jeay Sindh Mahaz (Zain group) said that they have joined the Sindh United Party (SUP).

JSM-Z vice-chairman Agha Qamar Mushwani and six other leaders announced the decision and vowed to continue their struggle for the restoration of the province’s rights.

Two killed: Two men were killed and nine injured in two incidents in Shikarpur and Khanpur talukas on Sunday.

Mehrab Marfani of Abdal village was shot dead by a group of armed men while he was walking to his village in the jurisdiction of the Hamayoon police station. The motive is said to be an ongoing dispute between three groups of Brohi, Marfanis, Bakhrani and Qambrani tribesmen.

In Khanpur taluka, Mohammad Soomar Malik was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers in Sher Ali Jatoi Goth. Nine men from both groups were injured in the heavy exchange of fire.

Those injured were taken to the Civil Hospital, Shikarpur, and Ghazi Malik was referred to a hospital in Larkana due to his serious condition.

The clash is said to have occurred because of an enmity over a karo-kari dispute.

No FIR was registered till the filing of this report.
