KARACHI, May 20: Two more victims of the May 12 related incidents died on Sunday raising the death toll to 48.

A worker of the Awami National Party, Moin Ahmed, succumbed to his wounds in Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he was brought on May 12. He was hit by a bullet on Sharea Faisal near Awami Markaz as he tried to reach the airport to receive the chief justice. He was a resident of Metroville.

A police constable Gul Nawaz, posted at Jackson police station, was on duty near Cheel Chowk in Lyari when he was hit by a bullet on May 14. He was admitted to Civil Hospital. On Sunday, he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The victim was a resident of Kalakot.

Though the death toll increased to 48 on Sunday, the government after a lapse of one week is still undecided about the probe. The Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Home Affairs, Wasim Akhtar, hinted at taking a decision about the inquiry in a high-level meeting to be held in a couple of days. The meeting would decide whether a high-powered inquiry committee comprising law enforcers would be constituted or the High Court of Sindh would be requested for a judicial inquiry.

Meanwhile, police registered a case against the Sindh government and the MQM for the mayhem, in compliance with the order by the additional district and sessions court, South, on a petition filed by a lawyer on Saturday. The police though had registered many cases of murders and arson, investigations were not initiated, the sources said, as the police high-ups had asked the investigators to keep the cases idle.
