KARACHI, May 19: The ban on manufacture, sale and use of polythene bags of less than 30 microns has been extended for another 30 days under Section 144 CrPC. Violation of the order will entail a six-month imprisonment or fine of Rs50,000 or both, according to an official announcement.
It was pointed out that polythene bags of less than 30 micrones caused choking of sewerage lines, open drains and storm water drains while accumulation of sewerage water lead to health hazardous environment within the limits of city government besides raising apprehensions about outbreak of various diseases.
Public has already been informed about the steps taken against manufacture, sale and use of banned polythene bags and in this regard a number of traders and shopkeepers were apprehended during the campaign launched by the city government.
Traders and citizens have been informed that the ban has been enforced in their interest therefore they should comply with it and support the city government efforts for the establishment of a clean and healthy environment.—APP
