SRINAGAR, May 19: A severe windstorm uprooted trees and electric poles in the occupied Kashmir, killing three people and injuring 60, officials said on Saturday. Winds with speeds of about 74 kilometers per hour swept most parts of Kashmir for two hours on Friday evening, said N. P. Bhatnagar, the director of weather office in Srinagar.

Falling trees killed the three people, said Amir Ali, a state government official, adding that many houses were damaged.

Disaster management officials on Friday rescued nearly 150 people, most of them tourists living in houseboats on the Dal Lake in Srinagar, said Ali.

More than 3,700 houses have been partially damaged by the storm, he added.—AP
